Note from the designer: This is the next sampler in my Rhode Island sampler-inspired series, and it was a joy to design because I chose to work with a palette that was not the usual Halloween flavor sometimes associated with Salem. No orange was used anywhere in the piece! The top of the sampler features a "death head," which is a winged skull used on many old headstones and represents a soul whose journey isn't finished yet, a passing on to heaven. The middle section shows Reverend Mather protecting an accusing girl as he points a persecutory finger at two innocent women. Gallows Hill was where the accused were hanged.
This pattern is stitched on 36 ct. linen using DMC, Classic Colorworks and Weeks Dye Works floss. Stitch count is 168w x 185h. Finished size is 9.33" x 10.28".
